singing in the car

My husband John is the only person I will sing around. I have no singing voice to speak of and a range of about 3 notes. Still, singing loudly in the car to your favorite songs is one of life’s greatest pleasures. So it’s nice to have someone to sing with. (For the record, John has a nice voice and this thing called “pitch” that I wouldn’t know about.) Singing in the car is also a good way to stay awake while driving home after a late night at the Hagemans.

Some of our favorite sing-along songs:

Blues Traveler – “Hook” (which has that fast part I so carefully memorized in high school, and all those ironic lyrics)
Belle and Sebastian – “Get Me Away From Here I’m Dying”
Cake’s cover of “Ruby”
Calexico’s cover of “Alone Again Or”
Richard Buckner – “Blue and Wonder”
Postal Service – “Such Great Heights”
Various Decemberists songs

And here is one of our all-time favorite songs, “So Much Wine” by the Handsome Family. This is probably one of the only songs that could ever coax me to sing karaoke if it was ever in the catalog. John and I would have to do a duet, gazing lovingly into each other’s eyes.
